Details of road closures during the Manchester Pride Big Weekend and the Pride Parade have been announced today by the festival organisers.
Eleven areas within the borders of Portland Street, Princess Street, Whitworth Street and Minshull Street will be closed from 6am on Friday August 27 until 7am Tuesday August 31.
These include parts, or all, of Abingdon Street , Silver Street, Hart Street, Major Street, Bloom Street, Richmond Street, Canal Street, Brazil Street, Chorlton Street and Sackville Street .
The Manchester Pride Parade starts at 1pm on Saturday August 28. A number of roads will also be closed from 12.45pm until 5pm to allow the parade to pass by. Liverpool Road will be closed from the earlier time of 6am to allow the event organisers and entrants to coordinate prior to the start of the parade.
In total, nine roads are closed along the parade route. These include: Deansgate, from Liverpool Road to St Ann’s Street, which is closed as far as Cross Street , Albert Square, Princess Street, Whitworth Street and Fairfield Street .
Jackie Crozier, festival director of Manchester Pride, said:
“The parade is the one of the main crowd pullers and it’s hugely important that it’s safe and secure for all those attending. The road closures will ensure that thousands of people will be able to enjoy the Parade and join us to celebrate lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender life in a safe environment. The roads being closed will re-open as soon as possible to ensure only the minimum disruption.”
