OutLines is a new Manchester-based creative writing project for LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender) writers.  Workshops, which are free and open to the public, are held monthly. The OutLines blog is now also available to participants to publicly showcase their work.

The blog is a unique online space for the presentation of work in progress.  Featured writing is new, sometimes experimental, and features sketches, samples and drafts.  The site features poetry and prose in progress, from emerging queer-identified writers.  In the absence of a Northern-oriented journal of LGBT writing, the OutLines blog is a channel and a platform for talented new gay writers in the region.

OutLines is the latest initiative of Manchester-based LGBT writers’ group, OutWrite.  OutWrite have been meeting for several years – the offshoot of the famous Northern Gay Writers group on Bootle Street.  They meet fortnightly to read, write and discuss work, and provide support and opportunities for emerging writers.  They hope this year to widen their platform, through writing events and projects, in order to help local writers to get their voices heard – and their writing published.

David Kalu, Creative Director of Commonword, says of OutWrite and the Northern Gay Writers:
"This is a group that has literary talent in abundance and provides a very supportive atmosphere for lesbian and gay writers.  A wonderful group of  inspired and inspiring writers who start literary revolutions!’
