SCOTT (Stop Conversion Therapy Taskforce), the group which is against therapists who claim to be able to 'cure' homosexuality, has protested a gay-to-straight conversion conference in County Down, Ireland.

The group was started by journalist Patrick Strudwick after he wrote an article for the Independent exposing a number of conversion therapists.

The conference featured a speech by Mario Bergner, a Canadian minister who claims prayer cured him of homosexuality and Aids. Other speakers included Christine Sneeringer who blamed her lesbianism on childhood sexual abuse. She also said that Christian softball, as opposed to prayer, cured her.

SCOTT believes that:
"The practise by therapists, psychiatrists and religious leaders of attempting to change a person's sexual orientation is damaging, offensive, immoral, unethical and ineffective."
