Pride in Canterbury has announced the winners of their 2009 awards. Amongst those receiving awards is Jamie Watson, who won the coveted Pride Entertainer of the Year award.

The awards in full:
Woman of the Year
Maggi Hambling
For her generous support of Pride in Canterbury's Culture Campaign.
 
Man of the Year
Lord Alli
For his support and significant assistance with Pride's Culture Campaign.

Sports Personality of the Year
Gareth Thomas
For his courageous and ground-breaking decision to come out in the world of sport.

LGBT Event of the Year
Reading LGBT Pride Day 2009
For its back to basics and on message celebration.

Pride Entertainer of the Year
Jamie Watson.

Celebrity of the Year
Oliver Thornton
For his performance in “Priscilla, Queen of the Desert” and his support for our Culture Campaign.

Film of the Year
“Milk”
A powerful reminder of the battles that have been fought and those that lie ahead.

Character of the Year
Roger Taber
For his poetry, novels and his appearance on the fourth plinth in Trafalgar Square.

Publication of the Year
Kentish Gazette
For publicising our work and concerns during 2009.

Shows of the Year
David Benson Sings Noel Coward
A brave, honest, moving and entertaining performer

The Sassy Seaside Special Show
For bringing true Diversity to Margate’s Theatre Royal.

Group of the Year
Fred Bear and his Bears
For bringing Bearlesque to Margate.

Barman of the Year
Scott Collins at CO2.

Drama Award
Moti and Jeff Fendall
For their production of “Breaking the Code”, a Tribute to Alan Turing.

Other Awards
Kent Police Diversity Liaison Officers
For their work with the LGBT community and support for Pride in Canterbury.

Herne Bay Operatic Society
For inviting local audiences to enjoy a taste of the delights of the notorious “La Cage aux Folles”.
