Research is being conducted into LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender) Ageing and Mental Health at the Research Department of Mental Health Sciences at University College London. The researcher is looking for LGBTs over 60 to complete a survey.

Derek Bird, who is conducting the research, said:
"There is little research of the needs and experiences of older lesbians and gay men in the UK. This area of research remains largely unexplored in social policy and across health and social care provision. In consequence older members of the gay and lesbian communities are often invisible in political, policy and advocacy on ageing and old age.

"By completing this research survey will be a contribution to a greater understanding of mental health service delivery for LGBT service users. In addition it will answer the research question whether those LGBT service users who are comfortable and confident with their sexual orientation receive better mental health delivery of service; whilst those LGBT people who are ‘hidden’ and ‘invisible’ continue to receive a prejudicial mental health delivery of service."

Responses to this on-line survey is completely anonymous as there is no requirement to disclose any personal details which can identify anyone.
