Today marks the official launch of Manchester Pride 2010, with a number of events planned over the next ten days.

Firstly, there is the Pride Fringe aspect of the festival which will see over 40 events held in over 20 different venues.  Events range from comedy and art to theatre and sport.

Following that, the Big Weekend starts on Friday August 27, and will see performances from headline acts such as: Kelis, Chicane, Beverley Knight and Belinda Carlisle.

The Pride Parade (Saturday August 28, 1pm) will this year see floats from the likes of Manchester Airport and Coronation Street- who will be celebrating their 50th birthday.

And, on Monday August 30 the festival will be brought to a close with the candlelight Vigil (Sackville Park).

Jackie Crozier, festival director of Manchester Pride:
I can’t believe that Manchester Pride 2010 is officially upon us. We have so much going on this year, from our new ‘Welcome to my World’ exhibition to Kelis performing on the Main Stage. I would like to take this opportunity to wish everyone a safe and happy Pride.”
