Brighton and Hove Labour candidates Nancy Platts, Simon Burgess and Celia Barlow have welcomed the launch of Labour’s manifesto.

Nancy Platts, Labour parliamentary candidate for Brighton Pavilion, said:
“Labour’s manifesto is positive news for people in Brighton and Hove. The challenges we face in the city, such as strengthening our local economy and having access to excellent public services are addressed.

“Brighton and Hove’s economy, with its strong creative and digital media industry, is well placed for a future with Labour.  We will back business to create one million more skilled jobs across the UK and grow our economy through advanced technology, exports and business investment.

“We want to modernise Britain’s infrastructure with High Speed Rail, a Green Investment Bank and broadband access for all.“

Simon Burgess, Labour parliamentary candidate for Brighton Kemptown, said:
“The manifesto sets out our plan to ensure that excellence is spread across all our public services, protecting and enhancing them for future generations  – with a thousand schools becoming part of high standard accredited schools groups and every hospital a Foundation Trust.

“The Conservatives on the other hand are not committed to helping families or investing in frontline public services. Nationally they would cut the Child Trust Fund and cut Child Tax Credits and locally, the Brighton & Hove Tories have already taken £600,000 out of the Sure Start children’s centre budget.“

Celia Barlow, Labour parliamentary candidate for Hove, said:
“Our manifesto sets out plans to address the main future challenges we face in our economy, our society and our politics.  We have learned from both what Labour has done well and the lessons we take from our experience to date.

“All Brighton and Hove residents who use or work in the public services should be aware of exactly how Tory cuts will threaten jobs and the quality of life here.  The Tory Council’s slashing of the Sure Start budget would be just the tip of the iceberg under a Tory Government.”
