Rainbow flags will fly across Norfolk on February 1 for the start of LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender) History Month. Poet and artist Vince Laws will perform at the morning flag raising, and at the Launch Party at City Hall that evening, which kick-starts over 40 events in 28 days.

Mr Laws said
“There’s comedy, drama, sport, politics and parties to enjoy. I urge those of you who are not LGB or T to join us at these events, break down barriers, and show that you believe we all deserve to be our best, regardless.”

Mr Laws will perform at the Children’s Party on Saturday 6, at the launch of the Pride Arts Network on Wednesday 10, at the Valentine’s Dinner on Sunday 14, and at the Poetry Supper in Cromer on Tuesday 23.

You can buy him a mug of Earl Grey and a cake at the Tea Lounge on Thursday 25th when he is one of the ‘books’ you can borrow from the Human Library. During the month Mr Laws will record a radio play called The Small Frayed Knot using LGBT and other voices, which will air on the Platform arts show on Future Radio 96.9FM (www.futureradio.co.uk) on Sunday 28.

Francesca Beard, described as the Queen of British Performance Poetry, tutored Mr Laws at a residential course in Ted Hughes’s old house in Yorkshire last November, and wrote,
"His work sometimes deals with deeply personal and painfully political subject-matter but his stage presence is so warm, genuine and witty that it made the journey a pleasure for this audience member."
