In response to the recent hate crime attack in Trafalgar Square, the rise in the number of homophobic attacks in London, and previous hate attacks, a vigil has been organised in Trafalgar Square on Friday October 30 starting at 8pm.
Sixty-two year old Ian Baynham suffered fatal head injuries in what detectives described as a
'vicious' homophobic assault outside the South African High Commission. He died in hospital two weeks after the fatal attack which took place on September 25.
Event organisers state that the aim of the vigil is to show the world that this anti-sociable behaviour is unacceptable in London.
A spokesman for London Pride said:
"It’s important that you join in, because this wasn’t just a homophobic attack. It was an attack on everyone’s right to walk through their city without fear of attack. This is about everyone, straight and gay."
If you’re interested in marching through Soho and helping to get people to join in along the way, meet at Soho Square at 7pm.
