GFest - gayWise LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender) arts Festival, known for short as GFest, has announced its 2009 festival programme. The festival will take place at various venues in London including Rich Mix, Cochrane Theater, McKenzie Pavilion in Finsbury Park and The Drill Hall from Nov 9 –22.
The programme was selected through open call for submissions in three categories: Visual Arts, Short Films & Performances. The programme was chosen by seven eminent selection panel members.
Niranjan Kamatkar, artistic director of Wise Thoughts, an arts charity who organises the festival said:
“Now in its third year, GFest 09 features the work of both established and
emerging talent. We have taken some risks in selecting work that will challenge audiences. We are really proud and thrilled to announce its ever-expanding greater artistic contents.”
“Some GFest short films this year reflect a new found, confident, queer sexuality of today's young people. The festival presents a majority of British or London based LGBT and queer artists but we are also pleased to showcase exciting talent from across the world - from the USA and Europe to Pakistan.”
The Festival is recognised as one of the key events taking place in the capital's annual LGBT calendar by many people, including the Mayor of London.
The GFest 09 launch will be once again hosted by Minister David Lammy in House of Commons, the Palace of Westminster. Last year's launch was attended by MPs from all main three parties and distinguished LGBT personalities.
