Get sporty with Manchester Pride

With just a few days to go until Manchester Pride begins on Friday, August 20, the full programme of sporting events has been announced.

Sports events are as follows:
Discover Scuba Diving, held at Manchester Aquatics Centre (2 Booth Street), Friday, August 20, 7.45pm – 10pm.  A two hour taster session teaching the basics of scuba diving.

Discover Hill Walking, meeting at Piccadilly Train Station (Piccadilly), Sunday, August 22, 9am.  An introduction to the joys of walking through the heart of the Peak District.

Discover Airkix, held at Airkix (Trafford Quays), Monday, August 23, 7pm – 9.30pm. An opportunity to float and have a go at aerial acrobatics in a wind tunnel where the wind reaches 180mph.

Marlin Pride Pool Party, held at Levenshulme Swimming Baths (Barlow Road), Monday, August 23, 7.30pm – 9pm. This is a pool party for all transgender people and their friends and families.

Get Your Glee On, (venue TBC) Tuesday, August 24, 6.30pm.  This is a chance to learn all the basic moves from the Glee TV series, taught by dance instructor Drew Hubbard.

Discover Kayaking, held at Salford Watersports Centre (15 The Quays), Tuesday, August 24, 7pm.  A two hour session teaching the basics of paddling and boat control, with a few games afterwards for fun.

Discover Ice Climbing, held at North Face shop (130 Deansgate), Wednesday, August 25, 6pm. A two hour taster session giving the chance to try ice climbing.

Out2Dance in the Village, held at New York New York bar (94 Bloom Street), Thursday, August 26, 6.30pm – 7.30pm.  This is a same-sex salsa class, where you can learn some basic steps and witness a mini showcase from group members.

Pride Canal Run, starts at Sugden Sports Centre (114 Grosvenor Street), Thursday, August 26, 7pm. A friendly run along the canal bank from Manchester to Salford Quays with distances between 5 and 10k.

Discover Indoor Climbing, held at Manchester Climbing Centre (St. Benedicts Church, Bennett Street ), Thursday, August 26, 7pm. A one and a half hour guide to the basics of indoor rock climbing.

It’s a Gay Knockout, held at Taurus Bar (1 Canal Street), Thursday, August 26, 9pm. The infamous pre-pride event involving eight teams battling it out through a series of camp events.

“Here at Manchester Pride we’re always looking for different ways to celebrate the diversity of our festival goers, and this year’s sports events provide just that. From the hardcore athletes to those who just want to have a little fun, there really is something for everyone.”
