Mark James, the first gay man to be convicted of passing on HIV, has been jailed after being on the run from the police for over three years. Last week Judge Jonathan Lowen at Isleworth Corwn Court sentenced him to four years and two months in jail.
Police from Hounslow arrested Mr James last week in a Brighton hospital which was treating him for lymphoma. James had pleaded guilty at his original trial but then absconded to France.
Judge Lowen said:
“During the three-and-a-half years while you roamed out and about, you represented a substantial risk of serious harm to members of the public were you again minded to commit the shocking crime to which I sentenced you in your absence on August 4th, 2006."
