Organisers of Exeter’s second Pride event are inviting people to join its rainbow flag parade, which will start the day's proceedings. The rainbow flag is 50 metres long and requires plenty of volunteers to help carry it

Those who wish to take part are asked to gather outside the St Sidwell’s Centre, Sidwell Street, prior to the 11am parade through the city.

The walking parade will feature just one motorised vehicle, a Devon and Somerset fire engine, as well as Devon and Cornwall Police officers marching in uniform and many people in colourful costumes.

The parade will head down the High Street and into Queen Street before arriving at Exeter Phoenix, where most pride events will take place during the rest of the day.

Those arriving at Exeter Phoenix will receive a free goody bag upon arrival, where, from 11am to 7pm, a range of events will take place.

There will be lots of stalls, a legal workshop and a discussion with a panel of invited guests on a range of topics. There will also be a women’s space offering workshops and information, a men's networking space, youth space, chill-out cafe and speed dating. From 4pm to 7pm there will be a chillout café, which will include  live music and songs from local entertainers.

Admission to the family-friendly event, which will run from 11am to 4pm, is free of charge.

Exeter Pride committee member Alan Quick said:
“Exeter Pride is coming out this year!

“The Exeter Pride committee is focusing the event on having Pride in our City and our City having pride in the LGBT communities here.

“It is going to be a terrific pride and we hope everybody comes along, not just members of the LGBT community."
