Firmly established as the oldest and one of the best-known LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender) choirs in Europe, the Pink Singers have been entertaining audiences and supporting their community for over 25 years. Now they have entered a mainstream choral competition arena, with success in their first competition.
A spokesman for the Pink Singers said:
"MACC (The Manchester Amateur Choral Competition) provides a forum where amateur choirs can come together in a spirit of friendship and respect to appreciate each other’s talents and make music together. The Pink Singers were honoured to be chosen to participate in the competition and excited to contribute to a gay presence at the MACC. Along with the Manchester Lesbian and Gay Chorus, the Pink Singers were the only representatives of the LGBT community at the event.
"MACC offered an opportunity to broaden our horizons, interact with choirs from all over the UK and the world, and share our love of singing with those we might not otherwise meet. Another treat was a performance by last year’s winners, Cottontown Chorus, who have gone on to represent Britain in international choral competitions. We hope to continue our participation in choral competitions in the future, and look forward to discovering new ways to reach out to the wider community."
The Pink Singers will perform in London at their Winter concert being held at the Royal College of Music on January 16 2010.
