Less than a month after their concert at the Queen Elizabeth Hall, the
award-winning Diversity Choir will perform at the iconic church of St
Martin-in-the-Fields in Trafalgar Square, London on July 3 at 7.30pm.
The concert coincides with Gay Pride Day and will cover a wide
repertoire of hymns and songs, old and new, classic and modern – from
Barber, Bernstein and Purcell to Abba and Erasure.
Diversity Choir is London’s LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual and
transgender) chamber choir with some 40 voices, conducted by Andrea
Brown, Director of Music at Morley College. Future plans include a
September concert in the Kings Place Festival, as well as performances
of the Monteverdi Vespers – Diversity-style!
Andrea Brown said:
“
We are delighted to be performing on Gay Pride Day at St
Martin-in-the-Fields. With its very progressive agenda and being located
at the epicenter of London and the Gay Pride events, it is an ideal
venue for us. We hope many will come to hear us!”
Diversity Choir was formed in 1992 by lesbians and gay men who wanted to
sing some of the most beautiful classical music written for choirs
along with the best of other musical genres. Now 40-strong, Diversity
regularly performs concerts at home and abroad, most recently in the
Queen Elizabeth Hall, Southbank Centre and with the London Gay Symphony
Orchestra at St. Martin-in-the-Fields, as well as tours of Berlin and
Frankfurt.
