The Sussex Beacon Half Marathon awards and prize giving ceremony was held in The Mayor's Parlour earlier this week.

Her Worship the Mayor Councillor Ann Norman presented the awards and met with runners and volunteers.

Becky Stevens, race director at the Sussex Beacon, said:
“Without the hard work and dedication of our absolutely brilliant volunteers on the day this event could not take place. We just couldn’t do it without them! ”

The Sussex Beacon was able to announce that this year so far the event has raised over £200,000, funds which go towards maintaining the vital care and support provided by the Sussex Beacon for people living with HIV.

This year 8153 runners entered, 1500 more than last year, and in spite of the downpour on the day itself, 6199 runners turned out to run. This included Councillor Ann Norman herself who ran the opening Ovett Mile alongside Robert Robinson the Mayoral chauffeur. The Sussex Beacon's charity partners St Dunstans and Water Aid all together raised £30,000 and 29,000 bottles of Lucozade Sport were handed out by 190 volunteers.
