The Martlets Hospice in Hove, is looking for people to take part in a sponsored group skydive to take place on Mothers Day next year.

A spokesman for the Hospice explained:
"Of all the many events and activities through which you can support the Martlets Hospice in Hove, the most challenging, exhilarating and memorable could well be a tandem skydive. Although you can skydive for the Hospice at anytime during the year, the next Martlets “group” skydive day will take place on Mothers Day Sunday, March 14 2010.

"After an appropriate briefing and instruction, you make your way to the jump aircraft which takes around 20 minutes to reach the jump height of 12,000 feet. Then, strapped to an experienced instructor, you exit the plane. The next 45 seconds are spent in freefall at which you descend at speeds of 120 mph. The instructor then pulls the ripcord and after the main parachute opens, you’ll  spend the following minutes in a gentle descent to the ground.

"Over the last 6 years, 125 people have taken part in sponsored skydives for the Martlets raising more than £26,500 for patient care at the Hospice. The skydive is organised by Headcorn Parachute Club on behalf of the Hospice and will take place at Headcorn in Kent. The minimum cost to take part is £395 per person of which £150 is paid to the Martlets. However, participants are encouraged to raise extra money by getting sponsored by family, friends and colleagues. You have to be at least 16 years of age to take part."
