Well as an impressive start you can’t beat (or have missed) the Royal Air Force's Red Arrows who kicked off the event yesterday morning. It seemed the entire city was out to watch them and the first night  of WhiteAir09 was packed, fun and lived up to it’s very slick hype.

On all weekend at Madeira drive, with tickets available on the gates, this weekends White Air festival promises (almost) something for everyone.

The daytime part of the event is a huge complex and endless energetic extreme sports festival, on land, sea and air, with more than 40 ’extreme’ sports available to try and dozens of professional displays, master classes and shows.

Yesterday (Friday) I flew in the fighter jet simulation, climbed the royal navy rock wall, bounced into the air on spring feet, did some pretty cool skating and tried my bruised arms at kiting. It’s hectic and fun and is packed with fit, healthy types all straining muscles and eager smiles.  Fun to take part and equally fun to watch for healthy boys and girls equally.

The music kicked off at 6pm yesterday and was good,  the crowd enjoying the variety of bands and finally ending up at a huge free party at the Concord2, stuffed full of multi-national tousled headed fittes and their cropped army & navy counterparts.

Today (Saturday) and tomorrow promises just as much fun with a stunning mock battle and the ‘water area’ – taking centre stage, tonight musical highlights included The Boxer Rebellion, The Cribs and then headliners The Doves. Well worth a trip down for the weekend.

Tomorrow looks just as jam packed with another huge free party (also on tomorrow) at the Concorde2 (for ticket holders) and the music line up closes with British Sea Power, White Lies and Biffy Clyro headlining.

It’s an impressive line up and an impressive set up, all close together so you don’t get too tired from walking about, just from the gawping and taking part.  This is hugely energetic festival.
