The traditional Rite of the Requiem Mass will be offered by candlelight in the Dorset Gardens Methodist Church to mark World Aids Day. The mass will be a remembrance of those who have lost their lives to AIDS.
Following the Mass, a silent candlelit procession to the AIDS memorial to highlight the impact of AIDS on the local community and to raise awareness of the increasing infection rate amongst young people and adults living with HIV/AIDS now.
The Requiem Mass will be offered by Fr Jerome Lloyd in a contemplative fashion, allowing people to sit or stand quietly, to come and go, and to add their prayers privately to those of the Mass as it progresses.
Names of people who have died from AIDS will be read out during the Mass which will be in candlelight to enhance the meditative atmosphere. Pastoral Assistants and Counsellors will be available to pray or talk with anyone who would appreciate it.
Following the Mass, a silent procession to the recently unveiled AIDS Memorial where a short service of rememberance will be led by the Revd Debbie Gaston of Brightwaves MCC.
People of all faiths or none are welcome to hear the Mass and to join in the candlelit procession. People are also invited to send in names of people they would like remembered. Tel: 01273 774889 or Email: frjerome-execclesia@yahoo.co.uk
The Requiem will take place at 7.30pm on Monday November 30 at The Small Chapel, Dorset Gardens Methodist Church, Brighton.
