Pride in Brighton and Hove have called a public meeting tonight at the Queens Hotel in Brighton to discuss feedback from the questionaire they published on their website after announcing proposals to scale back the Preston Park event next year. This followed an announcement by Pride of a potential £50,000 deficit in their budget and the launch of a £50,000 appeal to cover it.
Pride announced earlier this month proposals to axe The Calabash Tent, The Women's Tent, The Women's Performance Tent, The Cabaret Tent, The Dance Tent, The Popstarz Tents, the Bears Tent and the fun fair, replacing them with three performances spaces, claiming they wanted to bring the community back ,to the heart of Preston Park.
Many people were unhappy about the proposals and joined a facegroup group called Save Brighton Pride As We Know It, which now has over 6,400 members.
Wilde Ones, Prides production company for the last ten years have tabled a not for profit rescue package to save the event as it was this year, fence the park to enable a £3 donation to be collected and give all profits from the buckets collections to local LGBT/HIV organisations.
The meeting is at The Queens Hotel, 1 Kings Road, Brighton, East Sussex, BN1 1NS (Next to Dr. Brighton's) at 7pm.
