Brighton Police Station in John Street will be flying the LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender) flag during February 2010 to mark LGBT history month, which celebrates the lives and achievements of the LGBT community.
The city’s police commander and Sussex Police's sexual orientation diversity champion, Chief Superintendent Graham Bartlett, said:
“Sussex Police is proud to show its commitment by flying the LGBT flag during February and will continue to support events such as the Stonewall fund raising walk in May and the Brighton & Hove Pride event in August.
"These events and how we police them show our continued support and commitment, not only to our staff from this community but also the people of Sussex. These are all good examples of serving the people of Sussex and increasing awareness of LGBT history month."
Chris Cooke, chair of the St James's Street Local Action Team, said:
"This demonstrates Sussex Police's commitment to engaging and building trust within the LGBT community. I am pleased it will be flying proudly throughout the duration of February, rather than just for a token day."
