Sam Thomas, from the group Men Get Eating Disorders Too, has set up a petition to get better treatment for men affected by eating disorders.
Sam said:
"There is just over one month to sign the petition to encourage better service provision for men with eating disorders.
"For those of you who are unaware of the petition, I set it up on the Number 10 Website as part of my 'Men Get Eating Disorders Too' campaign to increase awareness of this much under-represnted issue.
"It reads: 'We the undersigned petition the Prime Minister to ensure men with eating disorders are given the same opportunities for treatment and care as female sufferers and are by no means discriminated against by their doctor / other health practitioner because they are male.'
"So far nearly 370 people have signed and the number is growing steadily. I hope to have at least 30 more signatures when the petition comes to a close on January 9 next year, although there is no upper limit as we have already exceeded the 200 target to qualify for a 'government reponse' to the petition following shortly after the deadline.
"More recently, I have been sending letters to various local MPs and MEPs to get their support and have recieved replies from Lib Dem MEPs Catherine Bearder and Sharon Bowles and Green MEP Caroline Lucas, who have all been promoting awareness of the petition of the campiagn and petition on their websites. Hove MP Celia Barlow wrote to Department of Health also in suppport."
