Sussex Police has been in discussions with the organisers of March for England - an event that takes place in a variety of locations around the country and will be happening in Brighton this Sunday (25).

March for England are a non-political group that campaigns for St George's Day to be made into a public bank holiday and have organised a march through Brighton for the last two years which is generally open to all who support the idea. Both previous marches have passed peacefully and included people from a range of ethnic and social backgrounds.

Largely due to misunderstandings about March for England's aims, Sussex Police now anticipate a second group will protest against the march. Significant disorder is not expected, but there will be a policing presence to allow both groups to hold their events peacefully and to facilitate their free speech.

The priority of the police is to minimise any disruption to local residents and businesses, however there may be some minor traffic disruption in central Brighton for a short period while the march takes place. In previous years the march has lasted for less than 30 minutes.
