Cllr Theobald and Jackie Fuller in Pelham Square

Pelham Square in Brighton has recently been revamped with lots of new
planting.
This square, which has been described as an "
oasis" just off of the beaten track of the northbound London Road, adjacent to St. Peters Church.
The council’s Cityparks have completely cleared out all the old shrubs, and replanted with a mix which should withstand the dry shady conditions.
Jackie Fuller, from the Friends of Pelham Square, said:
“The square is an oasis in the middle of this built up area and the Friends have been very pleased to work with the council on the new planting scheme. It is now a garden which residents and visitors can enjoy, and of which the city can be proud.”
The Friends have worked with the council on choosing new plants for the square and some new seats have been put in and dedicated to memory of former residents.
Councillor Geoffrey Theobald, cabinet member for environment, added:
“
There will be interest all year round provided by hellebores and ‘elephant’s ears’ in the winter, spring bulbs and a huge array of grasses, shrubs and herbaceous perennials.”
The Friends group has been running for about five years, made up of residents of the square and people living in vicinity.
