Hove based restaurant, 9Bar, say that they "
have proved" that taking a lunch break reduces levels of stress.
Throughout January, four volunteers working in the local area have taken part in 9Bars
"Lunch time challenge".
At the beginning of the experiment the volunteers had a stress test taken, this included blood pressure, anxiety levels etc. The volunteers were chosen because they usually eat their lunch at their desk or on the move.
Between 1-2pm the volunteers had their stress levels re-examined by a nurse and the result showed lower levels of stress and increased levels of productivity. Deborah Menadue, Colin Brace, Carina Macolan and Charlotte Soupart all have had their pulse, blood pressure and cholesterol drop by a minimum of 20%. Colin, who suffers from high cholesterol, has dropped by 27%.
Richard Lattimer, owner of 9bar, believes that taking a lunch break at least twice a week will have a range of advantages, including reduced levels of stress, therefore making a more productive workforce.
