QueenSpark Books are to hold a book design course this June with professional designer Nigel French.

A spokesman for QueenSpark Books said:
"Adobe InDesign is the world’s most sophisticated page layout software; offering an astounding array of options for producing sophisticated page layouts from single page documents to complex books.

"This hands-on class explores the fundamentals of InDesign, including its unique typographic and graphic capabilities, whilst at the same time offering tips for using InDesign efficiently. Starting out with simple text documents and progressing to complex multi-page layouts, throughout the five-day class you will develop your skills through instructor guidance and peer review.

"Participants should be familiar with working on a Mac or Windows computer. Some experience of page layout desirable."

The 5 day course has 8 places, and costs £250.00 (inc. VAT). QueenSpark is able to offer four full bursaries for the course.

To receive a bursary, participants will need to:
  • Have some experience of page layout, or a demonstrated interest in book design.
  • Use content for the next QueenSpark book as your project work on the course.
  • Commit to offering up to 20 hours of volunteer time to QueenSpark during June/August, working on the next QueenSpark book Back Stage Brighton.
  • Not be in full-time employment.

Demand for the bursaries is likely to be very high. It is advised that people only apply for them if they can fulfil the criteria, and would not be able to attend the course otherwise.

All course places will be confirmed on Monday May 17. Due to previous late dropouts affecting the viability of courses, full fee payment will have to be made by cash or cheque by Monday May 24.

The course takes place from Monday, June 14 to Friday 18 at University of Brighton, Grand Parade Campus, Brighton.
