Union and political activists have launched a Brighton & Hove branch of Unite Against Fascism with a facebook page open to all and a soon to be announced Love Music Hate Racism fundraising gig.

Dr Nadia Edmond from the University of Brighton UCU said:
"The current climate of austerity measures and attacks on working class jobs and living standards provides a breeding ground for racists, fascists and associated islamophobia and homophobia. It is vital that we have a local group of the national campaign 'Unite Against Fascism' bringing trade unionists and others together to coordinate opposition to fascists".

Simon Burgess, former Labour City Council Leader, said:
"It is too easy to be complacent in our city but we shouldn't forget the BNP have stood a candidate here in the past and that sadly there are homophobic and racist attacks here. It is far better that we show that all reasonable people are standing here together so that the BNP and the likes think twice about spreading their message of hate and bigotry here. The BNP have a record of organising in Eastbourne and Crawley and as a group we will also want to show our support for anti-fascists there."
