Today marks the 67th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau, the Nazi concentration and extermination camp which is the site of the largest mass murder in history.
In the last few weeks, the Holocaust Educational Trust placed a Book of Commitment in the House of Commons to give Members of Parliament the chance to honour those who were persecuted and killed during the Holocaust.
Many members of the public have used the day as an opportunity to actively speak out against prejudice and bigotry.

Both local conservative MPs, Simon Kirby and Mike Weatherley have signed the Book of Commitment.
Commenting, Mike said:
“Holocaust Memorial Day is a sobering reminder of the terrible genocide that took place during the Holocaust. Looking to the future, it also reminds us of the importance of challenging all forms of bigotry. I would encourage anyone who wants to learn about the excellent work of the Holocaust Education Trust to visit their website."

Simon said:
“Holocaust Memorial Day marks the
anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau – and is an
important opportunity to both remember the victims of genocide. I
encourage all constituents to mark the day and to commit to ‘speaking up
and speaking out’ against prejudice today.”
