Cllr Paul Elgood

The Liberal Democrats selected their Parliamentary Candidate for the forthcoming General Election at a packed meeting of Hove members tonight (Thursday 3).

Local Lib Dem Councillor Paul Elgood was selected by members to fight the seat when the General Election is called. Paul stood in Hove in the 2005 General Election where he more than doubled the vote to a respectable 8002 votes.

Paul was born in Brighton and Hove and has been the Councillor for Brunswick and Adelaide ward since 1999.

 Paul said:
"I couldn't resist throwing my hat into the ring in what will be a truly momentous election fight. The eyes of the country will be on the Brighton and Hove seats in the General Election and I am going to ensure that the Liberal Democrat voice is heard loud and clear.

"We are going to fight for every vote and ensure that the liberal perspective is put in front of the electorate so they have a real choice in this election.

"I am going to get out and fight for every vote in Hove. Residents deserve a thorough electoral process."

Paul added:
"I was heavily involved in the city's AIDS memorial, and I asked the party to hold back on the selection process until the project  was completed and successfully delivered. I felt strongly that I wanted to approach this important project in an entirely non-partisan way, which I couldn't have done then as a selected Parliamentary Candidate."
