Liberal Democrat Councillors on Brighton and Hove Council have renewed their call for council funding for Pride, a call first made when the organisation appealed for help with their current funding crisis two months ago.

They also want to see independent scrutiny of Pride's current tendering process.

Lib Dem group leader Cllr Paul Elgood said:
"At the start of the process we were alone amongst the political parties to call for council funding for Pride. This would have stabilised the situation and enabled the debate to focus on the event.

"We now renew this call and believe that the council must step in with funding to protect the community elements of the event.

"We also believe that the heat must now be taken out of the debate. We would like to see independent scrutiny of the current tender process and subsequent decision-making to ensure fairness. This would ensure openness and transparency and restore faith in the process.'
