Commenting on his blog over the row over bullying accusations at 10 Downing Street, Brighton and Hove Lib Dem Councillor Paul Elgood said:
"I have no idea whether or not Gordon Brown is guilty of misconduct on staff matters, however, this debate does highlight the need for clear, accessible and independent anti-bullying policies for organisations in the public, and indeed private, sectors.

"Brighton & Hove Council is in the process of developing a long awaited Dignity at Work policy and this is a once in five years opportunity to restore faith in the organisation's staffing policies and practices.  The council must get this right and we will be looking to the new Chief Executive to ensure that this occurs.

"Going back over the years there have been too many tribunal cases and concerns raised by staff over bullying issues at the council for this opportunity to be lost.  If this opportunity is missed, then the council will lay itself wide open to claims against it and continue not to have the confidence of all staff that its practices are fair. What is more is that the council's staff deserve better."
