Central Hove ward Liberal Democrat campaigner Rebecca Taylor says that "too many supermarket stores are eroding our city’s identity".

Rebecca said:
"I am appalled at the proposed bid for yet another Sainsbury’s, this time on the former Taj premises in Kemp Town.

"In December Sainsbury’s opened in North Street – we already had a Co-op there, a Tesco round the corner and a Morrisons down the road. Our city centres don’t exist to provide supermarkets with the opportunity to outdo their rivals.

"We all know the danger of allowing the exceptional nature of our city to fade into a bland mass of chain stores.

"As Liberal Democrat candidate for Central Hove, I will be fighting against any more big business using the unique city of Brighton and Hove solely to make profit.

"All investment must take into account what is already there in the surrounding area and what residents say they want."
