Ian Ross, Labour's openly gay Parliamentary Candidate for Worthing West, has expressed his disgust at the Ugandan Government considering introducing a new death sentence law for gay sex.

Under the new law members of the public are obliged to report any homosexual activity to police with 24 hours or risk up to three years in jail.  President Yoweri Museveni said last month that "European homosexuals are recruiting in Africa" and  "gay relationships were against God's will."

The Ugandan Minister for Ethics and Integrity said:
"We are talking about anal sex. Not even animals do that."

Ross said:
"I was disgusted when I read the Ugandan Government's comments and learnt about this law they are trying to push through.  Their Government is the most backward looking corrupt Government ever and it is up to the rest of the world to speak out and take action for the sake of the LGB community in Uganda.

"I have spoken to the British Government Cabinet Minister Ben Bradshaw to express my anger at this situation and have been reassured that the Foreign and Commonwealth Office is doing all it can in making representations to the Ugandan Government.

"If this law goes ahead I hope that the British Government will cut links with the Ugandan Government, such as imposing trade sanctions on its exports.  We can't afford to let homophobia go unchallenged."
