A policeman from olden times
|
As part of LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender) History Month, Sussex Police will be offering an LGBT tour of the Police Museum under Brighton Town Hall.
Originally built in 1830, the museum is sited in Brighton’s first police station. It offers visitors a chance to explore the original cells where Oscar Wilde, Emmeline Pankhurst and Joe Orton were held and also examine a large collection of police memorabilia. This includes uniforms designed for Brighton Police in the 60s by the openly gay hero, spy and Queen's dress maker Hardy Aimes. It has a grisly past as the only station in the UK where the Chief Constable was murdered in his own office.
The tour will be on Wednesday February 24 at 5:00pm.
