Sunday February 14 sees the Hanbury Ballroom host the annual LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender) History Ball, compered by Nicky Mitchell. During the Ball, the gorgeous Trudi Styles will compere the 2010 LGBT History Awards, an annual event celebrating the achievements of individuals within the LGBT community who give their time to activism.
As well as the individual prize, the Awards also recognise the work of LGBT organisations that have made historical progress on behalf of the LGBT community in Brighton & Hove. Nominees include Kath Browne, Christopher Cooke, Iain Gowers, Sheila McWattie and Steph Scott, and Allsorts, Pride in Brighton & Hove, and Spectrum.
Petra Davis, History Awards organiser, said:
"It's really important to celebrate the achievements of this unique community. During LGBT History Month we remember our history, but the Awards are about present-day historymakers: the city's activists and community organisations who are working now to achieve social change for all of us. "
As well as the History Awards, guests at the Ball can look forward to dance lessons from Brighton Jive and music from the Kroon Kats and the Hepcat Hussars, plus DJ Lonesome M. Tickets will be available on the door from 7pm.
