Brighton’s historic seafront bandstand has won a national award at the Lighting Design Awards.
The new lighting scheme at the bandstand, installed as part of Brighton & Hove City Council’s £950,000 restoration of the Grade II listed building, won the Special Projects award at the event which was organised by the Institute of Lighting Engineers.
The Victorian bandstand is illuminated nightly from dusk throughout the year, with colours changed for different occasions - at Christmas, for example, it was red, white and green, and on Valentine's Day it glowed red and pink. The lighting scheme was designed by Horsham based Urban Projects.
Brighton & Hove City Council leader, Councillor Mary Mears, said:
“We are thrilled to receive this award. The bandstand looks fantastic lit up at night and is a really eyecatching feature of the seafront, we are delighted the lighting scheme has received national recognition.”
