A Green amendment to a council meeting report has won a freeze on license fees for stalls at farmers' markets and street trading.
Green Cllr Jason Kitcat, who proposed the amendment, said:
“Markets and traders have been having a tough time recently in our city.
“Greens believe we should be suppor ting local businesses wherever possible, especially those that play such impor tant role in encouraging people to eat healthy, local food and keep excess packaging out of landfill.”
The original Conservative report proposed to increase most licenses fees by only 2% but for street traders and farmers' market stalls a 10% increase was proposed.
The Green amendment cut the 10% increase down to a 0% fee freeze. The full council meeting last Thursday passed the Green amendment.
Jason added:
“I’m delighted we were able to get win enough votes for our Green amendment"
