Green Cllr Keith Taylor has urged Brighton & Hove City Council to take immediate action to ensure the safety of pedestrians in the city centre.
Brighton Clock Tower, one of the city’s central road junctions, is currently being worked on. Fencing has been erected around the tower, and this has resulted in a key pedestrian crossing normally in use being closed.
Keith said:
“
The clock tower junction is in the heart of Brighton and thousands if not hundreds of thousands of people use it everyday. Although the junction has a high volume of road traffic, pedestrians usually have the option of clearly marked and safe road crossings.
“But, with the Queen’s Rd crossing blocked, pedestrians are now being told to walk up a bit further and seem to be expected to make a dash for it.
“The council hasn’t put up any special signs or introduced any new traffic controls at the point at which people are expected to cross and I’m really concerned it’s only a matter of time before there’s an accident.”
Brighton & Hove City Council has pledged to look in to the situation.
