As the Conservative Spring Forum comes to the city by the sea, Greens in Brighton & Hove have released a report – ‘The Tory Policy Gulf’ – which they believe shows the gap between the Conservative party policy claims on the national stage and the actions of locally elected Tories.

Green Councillor Amy Kennedy, Deputy Convenor of Green Group of Cllrs on Brighton & Hove City Council, said:
“Brighton & Hove City Council has been run by a Tory administration since May 2007.

“In those 3 years, the Tories have had ample opportunity – and hundreds of millions of pounds – to pursue their political priorities.

“Our report puts pay to the myth that the Tory party has changed.  Time and time again, local elected Tory Cllrs have chosen to turn their backs on the most vulnerable in our city, to preserve the status quo, and to prioritise the interests of those at the top.

“Greens believe in fighting for a fairer and more sustainable society. Our experience locally shows just what a barrier the Tory party is to this aim.

“Cameron’s claim to head a ‘new progressive force for everyone’ is farcical. Voters need only look to the record of elected Tories here in Brighton & Hove to see their real agenda.”
