Brighton and Hove Green Party Councillors have issued a last-minute appeal for front-line services to be protected in the city’s budget for the coming year.
Cllr Keith Taylor, who speaks for the Greens on Finance, said:
“Several key services forvulnerable people are threatened in the Tory administration’s proposals, which will be released in full tomorrow [Weds 3].
“The catalogue of cuts in services is comprehensive, but some are of particular concern. These include:
1. The plan to cut £125,000 from the budget forrespite care forfamilies with children with disabilities.
2. Proposals to save £200,000 by closing a day centre, most likely Ireland Lodge, which will make life extremely difficult for service users and their carers.
3. The proposed cut of £200,000 in subsidised bus services which look set to affect every part of the city.
“Greens will be putting forward our own proposals to avoid these cuts but, in the meantime, we urge the Tories to think again."
