Green Councillors have high hopes for their campaign for a 20mph speed limit on residential roads across the city, after securing cross-party support for a review of speed limits across the city.
Cllr Ian Davey, who speaks for the Greens on transport issues, last week laid down a successful Notice of Motion calling for the review at a meeting of Brighton & Hove City Council.
Ian said:
“I’m pleased the Tories have seen sense and agreed to look into reducing the speed limit.
”A default 20 mph speed limit would save lives, cut emissions, and increase the city’s overall wellbeing.
“A string of towns around the country has adopted a 20mph speed limit - It’s high time Brighton & Hove, with its high road casualty figures, followed suit.
“The bottom line is that speed kills and the difference between 30mph and 20mph can be the difference between life and death for anyone involved in an accident.”
