Green city councillor Jason Kitcat has called for an inter-agency summit to help manage East Street's night-time economy.

Cllr Kitcat said:
"Brighton & Hove is an exciting city full of great things to see and do, night or day. However East Street has seen the pendulum swing too far. Over the past few years nightclub hours have got later and later, but Police resources are not there to keep shifts on the streets at those late hours. The result is that residents are suffering from more noise, anti-social behaviour and disturbance from the night-time economy."

Working with local residents Cllr Kitcat has produced a film showing what part of a typical Friday night is like on East Street and how it affects the residents. The film shows how one family sleep in a corridor to escape noise and another have resorted to expensive triple glazing to try and get a good night's sleep.

Cllr Kitcat continued:
"Parliament needs to act to strengthen licensing controls, but we can also take action locally. I want to build on the good relations we have established with some of the venues in the street. That is why I'm calling for a summit of council officers, Police, club managers and residents to agree a new way of joint working.

"By working together we can improve the street for residents, businesses and visitors. I believe we can find a positive balance for all involved here so that people can enjoy their visits to  East Street without overly affecting residents."
