Young LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender) activists are to meet in Edinburgh next week for the General Assembly of IGLYO, the International Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Queer Youth and Student Organisation.
The IGLYO General Assembly 2009 will open at the Scottish Government on Thursday December 10, and is to be welcomed by the Ministry for Equalities and the Equalities and Human Rights Commission. After the opening, an international panel will discuss the theme Working for the Human Rights of LGBTQ youth: National, European and global perspectives.
Later, activists will mark International Human Rights Day 2009 with an action in central Edinburgh. This year the Human Rights Day 2009 will focus on non discrimination. IGLYO wants to acknowledge the fight against discrimination which remains a daily struggle for millions around the globe.
The overall aim of the IGLYO General Assembly 2009 will be for the 60 delegates present to discuss the topics within IGLYO's policy on education, internal membership reform, and ways of strengthening the LGBTQ youth and student movement in the next two years.
