Repairs to gas mains are being carried out in Church Road and Sackville Road, Hove. The safety work is being carried out by Southern Gas Networks following recent reports of gas escapes, and is due to continue for the next few weeks.

Temporary traffic lights have been installed at the junction of Church Road, Hove Street and Sackville Road while the work is carried out.

Southern Gas Networks is making every effort to minimise the impact on residents, businesses, drivers and pedestrians, and engineers are working from 7am to 7pm to complete the work as soon as possible.

Councillor  Geoffrey Theobald , Brighton & Hove City Council's cabinet member for environment, said:
"The council is liaising closely with Southern Gas Networks and drivers are being advised to use alternative routes, where possible, during peak times to avoid delays."

The council's network co-ordination team has also arranged for other work to be carried out at the same time, including resurfacing and work by BT, to avoid future disruption.

Southern Gas Networks has set up a phone line for residents and businesses on 0845 070 1431.
