Ed Miliband is to join LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender) Labour for the Manchester Pride parade.

A spokesman for LGBT Labour said:
"LGBT Labour is being joined on the Manchester Pride parade by one of the leading contenders for the Labour leadership. Ed Miliband will be joining the large contingent of LGBT Labour members marching to celebrate the huge strides made towards LGBT equality by the last Labour Government and to press the Coalition Government to put LGBT equality at the heart of its agenda.

"All five Labour leadership contenders have expressed their support for full gay marriage."

James Asser, LGBT Labour’s Co-Chair, said:
“We’re delighted to be joined by Ed and hugely proud that, whoever wins the contest, Labour’s next leader will support equal marriage rights.

“The Labour government delivered major advances for LGBT equality and we won’t tolerate the current Government simply standing still. We’re marching in Manchester not just to celebrate past achievements, but to highlight that the fight for full equality is not yet over. We will continue to fight to ensure the re-election of a Labour government that will deliver real change for our community.”
