Brighton & Hove City Council is to investigate its performance in recruiting and retaining people with disabilities within the council.

A cross party Scrutiny Panel has been set up with the specific task of investigating issues and experiences of disabled staff working in the council and of those who may be interested in working for the council.

The panel is keen to hear from anyone who has previously applied for a job within the council as well as disabled staff who are currently working for the council.

Two public meetings will take place; the first on Tuesday February 22 at 10 am, and the second on Friday March 12 at 10am both at  Hove Town Hall.  The panel is chaired by Cllr  David Watkins and includes Cllr Ian Davey, Cllr Steve Harmer-Strange and Cllr Mo Marsh.

Councillor Watkins said:
"We will be making recommendations on issues that affect disabled staff and so it’s crucial that we receive as much feedback as we can from the people really affected.

“I urge anyone with disabilities who works for the council or has applied for a job with us to share their experiences – good and bad.  We’re very happy to organise private one to one sessions and withhold identities if that encourages people to speak frankly and openly.”
