Brighton & Hove’s Licensing Panel ordered new licence conditions for the New Bush in Arundel Road Brighton, following complaints of noise nuisance.
The council’s environmental health team recommended that extra conditions were imposed to control the levels of noise from live and amplified music and restrict the numbers of people congregating outside.
Times for regulated entertainment were restricted to 10am-11pm Mon-Thursday, 10am-12 midnight, Fri-Saturday and 10am-10pm on Sunday.
Councillor, Denise Cobb, chairman of the city’s Licensing Committee, said:
“We are committed to encouraging and supporting responsible licensees but will not hesitate to take action when harm is being caused to neighbours. Excess noise can be extremely distressing but reviewing the licence gives us the opportunity to address the issue through a number of conditions.”
New conditions include all live and amplified music to be controlled by a sound limiting device set by the council; no drinks to be taken outside the front or back of the building between 10pm and 10am and windows and doors to be kept closed when regulated entertainment is taking place, and after 11pm. The number of people able to go out on the terrace area has been limited to eight customers between 11pm and closing.
