The city’s once top-rated adult social care services has been downgraded by The Care Quality Commission.
The Commission's report examines 7 crucial service areas which add up to a total score. Brighton & Hove Council has been ranked as second rate.
Cllr Keith Taylor, the Greens Adult Social Care scrutiny panel member said:
“It is very concerning to see the council’s performance slipping like this.
“At a time where there are so many obvious problems the Conservatives have chosen to slash another £2.4m from adult social care services – that’s 8% of the social care budget, that will mean 51 jobs lost.
“There is no joined up thinking here, we are seeing services to the most vulnerable people cut back, such as:
Older People Mental health/Adult Mental health placements cut – saving £290,000
Slash personalised care and support packages by £410,000
Cut respite care by £125,000
Close a day service – saving £200,000
Workforce savings £300,000
Saving £300,000 by privatising services
“Our social care staff are doing a good job under increasingly difficult circumstances.
“We will be proposing amendments to bring fairness to these budget proposals. Our number one priority will be to protect services and make sure residents most in need of support are not left worse off."
