The City formally recognised its LGBT staff's "hard work and constant innovation" at a Mayor’s reception last month.

A spokesman for the council said:
“The City formally recognised and acknowledged the hard work and constant innovation from LGBT staff required to ensure that Brighton & Hove organisations stay consistently in the top 100 performing organisations in the Stonewall index.

"The event was an opportunity to celebrate LGBT success and recognise the benefits of jointly working together and sharing best practice to achieve recognition."

Brighton & Hove Council, and a number of local employers, were recognised in Stonewall’s annual Workplace Equality Index. The index is an accolade awarded to firms and organisations whose employment practices and general policies best ensure fair treatment of the lesbian, gay and bisexual community.

The event was attended by representatives of local organisations who have been placed in the Index’s top 100 plus those who are doing nationally recognised work in relation to LGBT equality locally, including: Sussex Police; Sussex Partnership NHS Foundation Trust; East Sussex Fire & Rescue Service and East Sussex County Council.

Special congratulations went to Allsorts LGBT youth project who received the award for Stonewall Community Group of the Year for their work supporting LGBT Youth and their anti-bullying peer education

Brighton & Hove City Council was once again the highest ranked town hall, and includes the council’s LGBT staff forum which has been recognised by Stonewall as a Star Network Group – in recognition of the work it does towards workplace equality.
