Brighton & Hove City Council has pledged to improve the city's seafront, allocating £600,000 to restoring the railings and shelters along the stretch from the Marina to Hove Lagoon.
Some £500,000 of the funds proposed would be allocated for one-off restoration with a further £100,000 for on-going maintenance this year and every year thereafter. The move follows the high-profile restoration of the seafront bandstand in the current financial year.
Council Leader Mary Mears said:
“
The seafront in Brighton & Hove is our shop window to the world, shown on TV footage and in images across the globe. We want it to give the best possible impression of our city and believe that this investment now will reap the benefits for years to come.
“The seafront is fundamental in attracting the high number of visitors to the city, over 8million came last year, all who enjoy the high standards of care we take of our city and its seafront.”
The proposed budget will be debated at a meeting of the full council on February 25.
